Link 26 Jun 41 notes Rudimentary Liver Grown In Vitro»

medicalstate:

Following this post about stem cell regenerative therapy, this article comes from across the ocean in Japan. Researchers have managed to create a liver bud from pluripotent stem cells reprogrammed from skin cells. The key factors to the creation of the liver bud were the special medium used to induce differentiation into hepatocytes and the specifically timed addition of endothelial cells and mesenchymal cells to recreate an embryonic environment.

At this stage, the researchers claim some basic metabolic properties and function but nothing that could be used for replacement. However, the researchers are taking this development one step at a time.

Definitely am majorly geeking out about this. This is so cool!!!!
